Gardners Cottage Ilmington

The Cotswold Way

Stretching 102 miles from the market town of Chipping Campden to the city of Bath, the Cotswold Way is one of England's best-loved National Trails, and its northern starting point is just a few miles from Gardners Cottage.

The trail follows the edge of the Cotswold escarpment, so walkers are rewarded with sweeping views across the Vale of Evesham towards the Malvern Hills. Along the way you'll pass through honey-stone villages, ancient woodland, Iron Age hill forts and stately parkland.

You don't need to tackle the whole route to enjoy it. A favourite short walk from Chipping Campden climbs to Dover's Hill, where the Cotswold Olimpicks have been held since the 1600s, and continues on to Broadway Tower and down into Broadway village, around 6 miles in total. Stop for lunch in Broadway before taking a taxi back to your car.

The path is well waymarked with the National Trail acorn symbol, and the official website has downloadable maps and suggested day walks. Dogs on leads are welcome, which makes it ideal for four-legged guests too.
