Sudeley Castle

Set against the Cotswold hills above the town of Winchcombe, Sudeley Castle is steeped in Tudor history. It's the only private castle in England to have a queen buried within its grounds: Katherine Parr, the last of Henry VIII's six wives, lived and died here, and she rests in the castle's St Mary's Church.

The castle is surrounded by ten award-winning gardens, including the beautiful Queen's Garden, which is famous for its roses. You can also explore the romantic ruins of the old banqueting hall, wander through the exhibitions inside the castle, and let the children loose in the adventure playground.

Winchcombe is a charming small town with independent shops, pubs and tea rooms, and it sits on the Cotswold Way, making it easy to combine your visit with a walk. The castle is open seasonally, so check the website before you visit.
