A UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, Blenheim Palace in Woodstock is one of the grandest stately homes in Britain and makes a spectacular day out.
Built in the early 18th century as a gift from the nation to the 1st Duke of Marlborough, the palace is still home to the Dukes of Marlborough today. Inside, you can explore the lavish state rooms, the Long Library and an exhibition dedicated to Churchill's life.
Outside, more than 2,000 acres of 'Capability' Brown parkland surround the palace, with lakes, formal gardens, the Grand Bridge and a butterfly house. Children will love the giant hedge maze and adventure play area at the Pleasure Gardens. Blenheim also hosts events throughout the year, including a much-loved Christmas light trail.
Woodstock itself is a lovely small town with good pubs and restaurants, ideal for lunch or dinner after your visit.
